Trend Alart! Women now microwave their armpits to reduce hair growth and sweating (Photos)

There’s a new trend heating up the beauty industry.Thanks to medical device company Miramar Labs, women are now trying out MiraSmooth, a treatment that essentially microwaves your armpits to reduce hair growth AND sweating!

The device, which is FDA-approved, heats up levels deep beneath your skin where hair roots and and sweat glands are located and zaps them using controlled microwave energy. But while it’s similar to the contraption you use to heat up your food, it’s much safer!


“It’s the same wavelength but the delivery method, depth of penetration or range, and safety profile are totally different,” explains Dr. Snehal P. Amin, a certified dermatologic surgeon, who adds, “If something is heated up enough, it can be destroyed.”

So far, users have only complained about mild to moderate pain, which is combated using pretreatment cream and cooling off the skin. One woman on Instagram shared, “the procedure didn’t hurt, but the few days after I was sore.”
