Nnamdi Kanu Should Be Released With Immediate Effect - Igbo Groups In Diaspora

On Friday, December 25, an Igbo group called Ohaneze Diaspora which is made up of Igbos leaving overseas has urged the federal government to ensure the immediate and unconditional release of the Director of Radio Biafra and leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra agitators in the spirit of Christmas. Ohaneze Diaspora observed that the inability of the federal government to thoroughly correct the problem and challenges of marginalisation of the Igbos and re-organisation of the country using true federalism led to the recent secession protests.
Mr Buchi Diboh, president of the Igbo group stated that the continued detention of the IPOB leader by men of the State Security Services (SSS) despite his bail by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja last week shows disobedience for the rule of law and court process.

“It is weird and intolerable that the Nigerian state won independence from the British Colonial Government in the first instance on the basis of the right to self determination such that Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and other self determination agitators were never arrested by the British colonial authorities in the course of advocating self rule.

“The Nigerian state has oddly chosen to maim, detain and kill those seeking self rule on the same premise as the founding fathers did. We warn that no nation can ultimately be built or held together by force just as no marriage/association should be by force.”Buchi Diboh stated.
