Nike Fires Manny Pacquiao as Brand Ambassador Follow Anti-Gay Comments
Philippine boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has caused a storm following his remarks in a TV interview that homosexuals are “worse than animals”.
The eight-division world boxing champion turned politician has drawn the ire of gay Filipino celebrities and rights group with his politically incorrect stand.
Pacquiao, who is a member of the Phillipines House of Representatives and positions himself as a conservative Christian politician, is running for senate in the May elections.
In a clip posted online, the 36-year-old former champion tells the interviewer: “It’s common sense. Will you see any animals where male is to male and female is to female?

“The animals are better. They know how to distinguish male from female. If we approve [of] male on male, female on female, then man is worse than animals.”
He has since been condemned as a “hypocrite” and a “false prophet”, with local gay rights organisation Ladlad calling on voters to boycott Mr Pacquiao.
Reacting to this also Sports manufacturing giant Nike has terminated Manny Pacquiao’s contract as brand ambassador following his anti-gay comments.

Nike issued a statement this evening saying;
“We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community. We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao.”
