Edgar Lungu, Zambia’s incumbent president wins presidential election

Zambia’s incumbent President, Edgar Lungu has won the Presidential elections in the country according to officials reports released today.

According to the electoral commission, Mr Lungu of the Patriotic Front party secured 50.35% in Thursday’s vote beating his main rival, Hakainde Hichilema, who secured 47.67% of the votes cast.

Hakainde Hichilena and his UPND party have rejected the election results, claiming that the elections were rigged.

“We have evidence to the effect that the votes for Hakainde Hichilema have been deliberately reduced in collusion with the Electoral Commission of Zambia,” UPND lawyer Jack Mwiimbu told journalists.

“We have confidence that the constitutional court will rise above board and declare the results a nullity.”
