PDP Postpones National Convention, Gov. Wike's convoy attacked

The Peoples Democratic Party has officially rescheduled its national convention, and has extended the tenure of the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee by one year.

The party took the decisions at an emergency National Executive Committee meeting in Port Harcourt after the disruption of its National Convention by the police and soldiers.

The security agents had sealed off Sharks Stadium, Port Harcourt, Rivers State and prevented the National Convention from holding.

They were acting on an order of an Abuja Federal High Court, which declared the convention illegal and said it should be held on an date after September 7, 2016.

The disclosure of the extension also means the party will hold its next convention after one year as it will resolve lingering lawsuits within this period following the inability of the party to hold its national convention in the Rivers State capital after a Federal High Court on Abuja stopped the convention.
