NYSC promises improved mobilisation process

The National Youth Service Corps Director-General Brig. Gen. Sule Kazaure, has stated that the pre-mobilisation exercise which was hosted in Ibadan would create an opportunity for the corps’ management to meet with all the stakeholders in order to tackle the present and future challenge of the service scheme.

He (Kazaure) gave his speech during a four-day 2016 Batch B Pre-Mobilisation exercise of the NYSC, held to maximise corps members’ potentials and interfacing grassroots stakeholders in the education sector. The exercise was themed, ‘Overcoming the challenges of the NYSC mobilisation process: The Role of Stakeholders’.

He said, “The exercise provided a platform for the NYSC management and all stakeholders to meet and look through the previous activities aimed at finding solutions to the challenges that might have arisen in the previous mobilisation exercise and other associated problems.

“It also provided a forum to initiate measures for ensuring a hitch-free mobilisation and deployment of youths for the mandatory national service.”

The NYSC Director General re-stated that complete computerisation of the process, a major initiative of the scheme aimed at improving on the mobilisation exercise, had helped in speeding up the mobilisation process.

He, however, stated that despite the achievements recorded with the information and communication technology ICT initiative, improvement was still a necessity.

The Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, who gave a speech during the exercise, called on the management of NYSC to continue to broaden the frontiers of the service scheme to meet its current and future challenges.

He said, “As you are aware, the present situation in our country demands the active participation of all as the government strives to revitalise and revamp our economy. You must not rest on your oars, but rise to the dynamics of the society for the development of our youth, who look up to you for direction,” he added.

The governor also applauded the management of NYSC for bringing the exercise to the state, calling on the participants to maximise the opportunity offered by the workshop.
