Obama cancels meeting with philippines president after Rodrigo Dutert called him "son of a whore"

President Barack Obama has canceled a planned meeting with the President of Philippine, Rodrigo Duterte. The Presidents were expected to meet at the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian conference on Tuesday.

However, Duterte called out “I’m the President of a sovereign state, and we have long ceased to be a colony’. He then went ahead to call Obama ‘son of a whore’.

Obama said, ‘Clearly he’s a colorful guy. I always want to make sure if I’m having a meeting its productive’.

Duterte has come under criticism for his disregard for human rights in his fight against the illegal drug trade as policemen have carried out thousands of extrajudicial killings.

  However Duterte has now said he regrets the remark.

"While the immediate cause was my strong comments to certain press questions that elicited concern and distress, we also regret that it came across as a personal attack on the US president," a statement by his office said.
