US Election Updates - Donald Trump is being projected as the winner of the United States most contended election after winning key states of Florida, Lowa, Ohio, North Carolina.

Following the development, the Republican candidate, Trump now has an edge over Democrat Hillary Clinton in their race for the White House.

With voting completed in 44 of the 50 US states, the race was tight in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire.

At 8:55 p.m. EST, Clinton acknowledged a battle that was unexpectedly tight given her edge in opinion polls going into Election Day.

She tweeted: "This team has so much to be proud of. Whatever happens tonight, thank you for everything."

Trump's win in Ohio, Florida and North Carolina gave him an early advantage in the state-by-state fight for 270 Electoral College votes needed to win.
